Michael Shanley leads the operational systems design process for client service applications at Music Reports. Leveraging over a decade of music business software and development experience, Michael is a trusted expert in identifying global intellectual property rights challenges and building contemporary, enterprise level, big data solutions to manage all aspects of copyright usage, licensing and micro-payment processing.
As a zealous proponent of accuracy, transparency, and accountability within the various facets of music rights and general intellectual property rights administration, Shanley directs the growth and evolution of the world’s largest independent relational database of music copyright and related business information: Songdex®.
Songdex® contains detailed relational data about tens of millions of songs and recordings, covering virtually all of the commercially significant music in existence. This database is the common data source used by a broad client base which includes the world’s most successful broadcasters, record labels, digital music services, wireless carriers, and consumer products companies.
Songdex® is comprised of copyright data from an abundance of music publishers, records labels, and rights societies, who routinely provide data to the company, so as to facilitate its licensing and royalty reporting activities. Shanley, Vice President of IT Business Development at Music Reports, leads an IT team who specializes in normalizing and conforming the data from these disparate sources, so as to constantly update Songdex® through automated processes.
